DESCRIPTION:Climate change and human displacement\n\nA crucial topic concerning migration is its many causes. In what ways is climate change and crisis factoring in human displacement? Who is expected to respond to the climate crisis? \nFrom the apocalyptical to the hopeful? Is it possible to unite the forces or making a unified position across disciplines to address the crisis? What could be a meaningful religious response? \n\n\n\nThis event is part of an ecumenical and international webinar series will foster critical perspectives on migration in Europe. The series facilitates an ongoing conversation on these issues among theologians and migration scholars\, refugees and migrants\, activists\, and church and civic leaders. The initiative has the potential to enhance the promotion of the human dignity\, the protection of migrants’ and refugees’ rights regardless of their origin. And first and last: \nCan theology and churches represent serious challenges to the present European politics and societies\, often dominated by issues of security\, immigration restrictions\, and populist initiatives? \nWhich are the positions\, reflections of Christian churches in the current European migration context?  How is theology responding to the permanent mobility of people trying to enter “Fortress Europe”? \nThe webinar series will foster networks amongst scholars and Christian based organizations from different countries with the purpose of enhancing how theology can contribute to migration understanding. Dr. Joshtrom Isaac Kureethadam is Chair of Philosophy of Science and Director of the Institute of Social and Political Sciences at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome. He was the Coordinator of the Sector of “Ecology” at the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development from 2017-2023\, where he continues to serve\, while attending to numerous academic commitments. His publications include Creation in Crisis: Science\, Ethics and Theology (Orbis Books\, 2014)\, The Philosophical Roots of the Ecological Crisis (Cambridge Scholars\, 2017)\, The Ten Green Commandments of Laudato Si’(Liturgical Press\, 2019); Laudato Si’ Reader (ed.) (Libreria Editrice Vaticana\, 2021)\, Per Una Conversione Ecologica (Castelvecchi\, 2023). \nArne Johan Vetlesen \nArne Johan Vetlesen is professor of Philosophy at the University of Oslo. His research interests are tied to the conditions of moral – individually\, culturally and socially\, as well as topics related to freedom\, market and professional ethics. Lately he has focused on environmental philosophy\, particularly the question of the value of nature in light of the debate between the Anthropocene and biocentric perspectives. \nSome of his latest publications include Hva skal vi svare våre barn? (with Rasmus Willig\, 2018); Cosmologies of the Anthropocene: Panpsychism\, Animism\, and the Limits of Posthumanism (2019)\, Smerte i vår tid (Pain in our time) (2020)\, Etikk i klimakrisens tid (Ethics in a time of climate crisis) (with  Jan-Olav Henriksen\, 2022) and Animal Lives and Why they Matter (2023). \nAbout Gioacchino Campese\nGioacchino Campese\, is a member of the Scalabrinians\, a Roman Catholic religious order\, currently serving as professor of theology of human mobility at the Pontifical Urbaniana University\, Rome (Italy) and working with the Scalabrini International Migration Institute (SIMI). He is also president of the Agenzia Scalabriniana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (ASCS)\, an NGO that operates in the areas of integral welcoming\, intercultural engagement and development cooperation in Europe and Africa. He has studied theology in Manila (Philippines)\, Chicago (USA) and Rome\, where he earned a PhD in theology of mission. He has been ministering with migrants and refugees in Mexico\, USA and Italy. He has authored and edited several books and articles on the theology of migration and the pastoral care with migrants and refugees. \nAbout Cecilia Nahnfeldt\nCecilia Nahnfeldt is professor in practical theology at Åbo Academy University. Her research connects theology with gender studies. Nahnfelt has long experience of research related to theological perspectives on migration and social inclusion in churches and civil society with a focus on Sweden and the Nordic countries. \n\nAbout the series organisers\nThe Migration\, Ethics and Theology webinar series is developed in a cooperation between the Scalabrini International Migration Institute (SIMI) in Rome and scholars in the research project Nordhost – Migration and Hospitality in a Nordic context. DESCRIPTION:Summer School on Human Mobility and Global Justice\nChildren of Immigration: Citizens of a Global World\nAmong the numerous initiatives dedicated to the epoch-making phenomenon of international migration\, the Summer School “Human Mobility and Global Justice” pursues a repositioning of perspective\, placing the analysis of human mobility processes within a broader reflection\, which refers precisely to the question of global justice\, read in all its implications: economic\, political\, social\, cultural\, ethical and pastoral. \nThe 13th Edition of the School\, scheduled for August 25-28\, 2025\, will analyze these intertwined issues by focusing on the theme of “children of immigration” and confronting the sensitive issue of second generations. DESCRIPTION:Migration\, a Pilgrimage of Hope\nInternational Conference on Migration\, Theological and Social Studies\nOctober 21-23\, 2025 \nLocation: Pontifical Urbaniana University\, Vatican City | Rome \nMigration is one of the most pressing challenges of our time\, with millions of people forced to leave their homes due to conflict\, poverty and climate change. In this complex global scenario\, theology plays a crucial role in the study of migration\, offering a lens through which to examine the moral\, ethical and spiritual dimensions of these movements. Theology can provide meaningful responses\, promoting principles of welcome\, solidarity and human dignity. \nThrough interfaith dialogue and deepening Christian doctrine\, bridges of understanding and support can be built for migrants and refugees\, helping to create more just and inclusive societies. \nThe Scalabrini International Migration Institute (SIMI)\, the University of Notre Dame\, the Pontifical Urbaniana University\, the Klau Institute for Civil and Human Rights and the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies\, and the Kellogg Institute in the Keough School of Global Affairs\, and the Poverty Initiative of the University of Notre Dame in partnership\, are organizing an International Conference on Migration\, Theological Social Studies” to be held from 21 to 23 October 2025. The event\, which is held under the auspices of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development\,  the Consilium Conferentiarum Episcoporum Europae (CCEE) \,the International Union of Superiors General (UISG)\, and the Union Superiors General (USG) will bring together scholars\, theologians\, religious leaders\, representatives of NGOs\, faith-based organizations as well as representatives of migrant and refugee communities from around the world. \nThe aim of the gathering is to explore the intersections between migration and theology\, providing a space for reflection and dialogue as well as concrete pastoral actions on crucial issues of the phenomenon such as welcoming\, protecting\, promoting and integrating. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to analyze the theological challenges posed by migration and discuss the responses that theology can offer in a context of global mobility. Topics such as the theology of welcome\, the human dignity of migrants\, the role of religious communities in integration\, and the importance of Christian witness in a world marked by conflict and forced displacement will be addressed. \nFurthermore\, the conference will coincide with the Jubilee of the migrants on October 5th 2025\, an extraordinary event providing an ideal setting to explore the theme of migration from a perspective of hope and spiritual renewal. The Jubilee celebration will provide a unique context for rethinking theological and pastoral responses to human mobility\, examining how the Christian tradition can offer tools and resources to address contemporary challenges\, to assess the progress made and to outline new perspectives for the future. \nParticipants will receive a certificate of attendance. \nSee the program here \nCall for papers\nWe are pleased to invite scholars\, practitioners\, doctoral students and activists from diverse theological traditions and interdisciplinary fields to submit proposals exploring the multifaceted relationships between migration and theology. We seek papers that advance theological understanding of migration in ways that are contextually grounded\, socially engaged\, and globally informed. \nThe organizing committee invites submissions for 7 parallel panels exploring the intersections of migration\, theology\, and social and ethical studies.
