The 10th International Symposium on Migration and Religion<\/span><\/strong><\/span> was held from <\/span>May 26 to 28<\/span><\/strong> on the campus of the <\/span>Pontifical Catholic University of S\u00e3o Paulo<\/span><\/strong> (PUC-SP)<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n The meeting focused on the <\/span>assessment and perspectives<\/span> on migration in the Global South and North<\/span><\/strong><\/span>,<\/span> demonstrating the richness of the analysis carried out in recent years and the importance the academic community has given to the phenomenon of migration.<\/span><\/p>\n Promoted by the <\/span>Scalabrini International Migration Institute (SIMI) and the Mission of Peace \u2013 Center for Migration Studies (CEM)<\/span><\/strong>, in collaboration with the <\/span>Postgraduate Program in Religious Studies at PUC-SP<\/span><\/strong>, the Symposium brought together <\/span>academics, researchers, and students<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n Cardinal Fabio Baggio<\/span><\/strong>, CS<\/span>, Undersecretary of the <\/span>Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development<\/span><\/strong>, opened the event with a review of migration from the Dicastery’s perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n Father Aldo Skoda, director of SIMI<\/span><\/strong>, emphasized the importance of <\/span>abandoning the emergency-based view of migration<\/span><\/strong> and focusing on a <\/span>comprehensive perspective<\/span> <\/strong>of human mobility<\/span> that considers migrants <\/span>not just as numbers, but as individuals<\/span><\/strong> who are part of relational and social networks.<\/span><\/p>\n Father Skoda emphasized that <\/span>the increasing speed of change in migration worldwide<\/span><\/strong> is not matched by an adequate capacity for <\/span>structural and institutional adaptation<\/span><\/strong>.
