Sr. Rosita Milesi has Brazilian and Italian citizenship.

She is a member of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo – Scalabrinians, which she joined in 1964.

She is a lawyer, enrolled in the Brazilian Bar Association under n. 11.334, having graduated in Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul.

She was responsible for the implementation of the Scalabrinian Center for Migration Studies, created by the Congregation of the Scalabrinian Sisters in 1988.

She founded, in 1999, the Migrations and Human Rights Institute (IMDH), institution of which she is the current President. And, in 2017, she began her work with Venezuelan migrants in the State of Roraima (northern Brazil), attending the humanitarian emergency of Venezuelan migrations. She coordinates the annual publication of the Caderno de Debates “Refugee, Migrations and Citizenship”, whose first edition was in 2006.

She is an observer member of the National Committee for Refugees (CONARE), linked to the Ministry of Justice of Brazil.

She is part of the Pastoral Sector of Human Mobility of the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops.

For her performance in the cause of migrations, in the defense of the rights and protection of migrants and refugees, she has received some recognitions:

– Condecoration “Stella dela Solidarietà Italiana” concession from the Government of Italy, in 2006;

– MPT 10 Award, granted by the Public Ministry of Labor of the Brazilian State;

– Sérgio Vieira de Mello Medal, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, (2013);

– “Alceu Amoroso Lima Human Rights” Award, granted by the Alceu Amoroso Lima Center, in 2017.

– Medal “Mérito Dignidade Humana”, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the UDHR, granted by the Secretary of Justice of the DF, 2018.
