Welcome to JD, our new intern
My name is JD Sniegocki, I am a fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of Notre Dame in the United States, studying Global Affairs and Environmental Sciences. I am a fellow at Notre Dame’s Klau Institute for Civil and Human Rights, through which I have conducted research on reparations for racial discrimination and the narratives surrounding human rights violations in Chinese and U.S. state affiliated media. I also conduct research on the role of indigenous communities in protecting forests and mitigating climate change.
I am very passionate about migration and working to create a more just immigration system, both within the US and globally. I have previously worked to organize a public event to connect migrants and refugees with members of the local community in order to foster mutual understanding. I’ve also worked to raise funds for Jesuit Refugee Service USA and have conducted political advocacy work surrounding immigration reform at a national and state level in the US. I chose to intern with SIMI as I believe that their mission is very important, and I am especially interested in working with Catholic organizations to uphold the dignity of all people, especially the most vulnerable, so I am very excited to be interning with SIMI this summer.
