On 27 April 2016 at the Pontificia Università Gregoriana (PUG), SIMI, in ccollaboration with the Facoltà di Teologia Morale of PUG, held study seminar titled, "L'insostenibile leggerezza della percezione. The experience gained by the Association Scalamusic in various Italian dioceses (from Vicenza to Foggia, from Teramo to Rome), through concerts and workshops with youth, has highlighted the need to help educators of youth groups to organize intercultural training programs that are specifically intended to promote the dialogue between different cultures, taking into account the psychological and social dynamics that are activated in multicultural contexts. Two ex-students of SIMI have been ordained Bishops

It is with pleasure that we announce that two ex-students of SIMI have been appointed Bishops. S. E. Jose Kalluvelil who obtained the Licentiate in Pastoral Theology of Human Mobility at the SIMI in the academic year 2002-2003, was ordained Bishop of Tabalta in 2015. S. E. Christudas Rajappan who obtained the Licentiate in Pastoral Theology of Human Mobility at the SIMI in the academic year 2007-2008, was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Trivandrum in 2016.

On 3 March 2016, at the headquarters of the Diocesan School of Theology of Fabriano, the SIMI Director gave a lecture entitled, "Migrants and refugees. Ethical issues and the Church's social doctrine." The lecture took place within the curriculum of the first edition of the course organized by the Chair of the Social Doctrine of the Church and Politics of the Diocese of Fabriano-Matelica. Conference in Berna

The Italian Catholic Mission in Bern, directed by Fr. Antonio Grasso, in collaboration with the Swiss IOM, the SIMN Europe-Africa and the Katholishce Kirche Region Bern, organized a cycle of two conferences entitled, "The Journeys of Hope towards Bern." On 1 February 2016, at the SIMI headquarters, P. Vengacheriyil Kora Jaimón has successfully defended his Ph.D thesis. The dissertation titled, "Migration and Development. Impacts of Migration on Members of the Left - Behind Families in the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly" was highly graded by the moderator, prof. Fabio Baggio, and the correlators, prof. Francis-Vincent Anthony and prof. René Manenti. The same professors composed the thesis defense commitee. P. Jaimon, who now holds the title of doctor on pastoral theology of human mobility, Summa cum laude, would be able to make use of such title only upon the publication of his dissertation or an excerpt [...]

Theological Conference in Brazzaville

In order to start a theological reflection on the pastoral care of human mobility in Africa, the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Mozambique (SECAM) and the Association of Episcopal Conferences of Central Africa Region (ACERAC), in collaboration with SIMI and the International Catholic Commission for Migration (ICMC), organized an international conference on the theology of human mobility in Africa in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. Training Course for MSCS Formators

The director and vice director of SIMI were invited to hold two days of specialized training within the VI Training Course for Formators, which was organized by the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles - Scalabrini ( MSCS ) and held in Rome, at the headquarters of the General Administration of MSCS, from 10 January to 2 February 2016. Some professors of SIMI were called to present a series of lectures in the Training Seminar for Teachers, which was organized by the Pontifical Urban University (PUU) in the first semester of 2015-2016. The seminar titled, "Migrations: a social phenomenon and a pastoral challenge" was an on-going training program for teachers of the academic institutions affiliated to PUU worldwide. Prof. René Manenti, Aldo Skoda, Fabio Baggio, Gabriele Beltrami and Gioacchino Campese were called during the months of October 2015 and January 2016 to deliver various interdisciplinary lessons.
